Welcome to The Right-2-Left Map®

A Right-2-Left Map® is a simple, powerful and visual causal mapping tool used in systems engineering.

Right-2-Left Map

To create a Right-2-Left Map®:
1. Ask "What is the purpose of this product, process or project?"
2. Ask "How would I know if I am making progress towards the purpose?"
3. Ask "What assets do I have to employ in achieving the purpose?"
4. Ask "What do I need to do to make progress?"
5. Ask "What do I need to get to make progress?
6. Link the do's (actions) and the get's (outcomes) into a diagram.
7. For each 'get' ask "What do I need to have and to do in order to achieve this?"
8. Identify the heaps (what have and do not need) and holes (what we need and do not have).
9. Consider ways to free the heaps and fill the holes.

A Right-2-Left Map® is a form of causal structure map (CSM). To achieve our purpose we need to focus our efforts on effective and efficient (i.e. productive) use of our assets.

To start we must have the end in mind.
We design a process by working backwards from the intended outcome - Right-2-Left.
